5 Highlights from the McBryde Garden in Kaua'i
We love walking around appreciating nature from national parks to botanical gardens. This was our first time in Kaua'i and we decided to check out the National Tropical Botantical Gardens (NTBG) with a self-guided tour at the McBryde Garden. NTBG has gardens in Kaua'i, Maui and Florida. Once we arrived, it was a 15-minute shuttle bus with about 12 people on the bus. Here are 5 highlights of the garden to share with you below.
1. Meet Nature Lovers
You have the opportunity to meet other people who appreciate nature. During our shuttle bus trip, we met a family of 6 (parents, 2 sons, grandparents) and the parents said they are members who come to this garden every week with their kids and the special occasion today was to show the grandparents the garden. Personally, I absolutely loved that they were exposing the kids to nature and they did not have an iPad or electronic device in sight during the entire trip. Impressive and that is how we want to raise our future kids. The kid was picking up leaves and giving them to her mom who would teach them the name of the fruits and plants he was taking. Since I live in NYC, it is harder to find nature to appreciate as it is in Hawaii. Smell the fresh air and be thankful for the beauty of nature we have around us. Also, our shuttle driver was from New Jersey and moved to Hawaii to have a job supporting the environment passing on the education and importance of it to others.
2. Sight of Fresh Fruits
I did not grow up as a farmer and the sight of a papaya tree or any fruits I eat are quite fascinating. The first time we tried soursop was in Jamaica and we were excited we saw a soursop tree growing them.
3. Surrounded by Lush Green & Scenic Views
It is so relaxing and peaceful to walk around a lush, green environment. It brings you to tranquility and is worth the time to breathe in the fresh air putting your mind at ease. That is one of the many reasons I love Hawaii as there is natural beauty in the environment everywhere you turn to appreciate and enjoy.
4. Beautiful, Tropical Flowers
Even though I may not know the names of many flowers, I love snapping away to capture the close-up in a photos. There were so many tropical flowers we have never seen before along our trail at this botanical garden.
5. Biodiversity Trail
There was a breathtaking biodiversity trail that allowed us to explore the complexity of life and natural beauty. It highlighted the story of life on Earth and showed how greater diversity creates a stronger, richer, healthier world.
